Overview
This page walks through every step needed to get Remote Tools up and running, from a new subscription to a first connection.
Remote Tools has two programs:
- The Control is the management interface. It holds your configuration, enrols and manages devices, and is where you establish remote connections, and initiate functions and tasks. The control program is available on Windows and macOS.
- The Agent is installed on each device you want to reach. It accepts connections from the Control and runs the requested functions locally. Versions of the agent are available for a range of operating systems and processor architectures.
📌 The Control is always set up first, because it is what enrols the Agents.
Step 1 - Install the Control
Download the relevant Windows or macOS control program installer from the download section of the Remote Tools website.
Step 2 - Enrol the Control
Before it can be used, the control needs to be enrolled onto the system and linked to your subscription.
Once it is enrolled, see Getting Around for a tour of the Control's interface.
Step 3 - Load the Configuration and Operator
- From the Remote Tools menu, select Load Configuration
- Click the configuration name and enter the configuration password
- Enter your operator name and password
Step 4 - Download the Agent Installers
The installers for the different versions of the agent are downloaded from within the control program.
See Where to get the installers
Step 5 - Install and Enrol the Agents
Each device you want to add to your configuration needs the Agent installed and enrolled:
| Install the Agent | Run the installer downloaded in the step above on the device you want to add |
| Enrol the Agent | Run the -enrol command on the device being enrolled, then type the code it displays into the Control using Enrol Device |
📌 An enrolment code is valid for one hour. If it expires before it is entered on the Control, run the -enrol command again for a new one.
Step 6 - Ready to Use
The enrolled Agent connects to the system and appears in the Agents list, ready to connect to.
